The Madrigals

Walsingham Academy’s Madrigals are an auditioned choral ensemble of 10th through 12th graders committed to mastering the art of A Capella singing from Medieval to present times.

Upper School Chorus

Upper School students in Grades 8-10 participate in the Upper School Chorus. Eighth graders learn fundamental music theory, sight-singing, and learn to sign in harmony. Ninth graders build upon that foundation by learning basic signs and symbols of music, developing simple conducting skills, and playing simple melodies and/or chords on the piano and guitar. In 10th Grade, students learn to work more with dynamics and expression and continue to expand their sight-reading skills. Students also learn the basics of keyboards, guitars, percussion, and computers in music.

The Upper School Chorus performs each year at the Candlelight and Spring Concerts.

Instrumental Ensemble

Available to Upper School students, the Instrumental Ensemble is a performing class of mixed instruments emphasizing detailed work on instrumental and band literature as well as individual concentration on tone production, technique, musicianship, sight-reading, and expanded repertoire.
